2012 my son had severe pain in his right side. Nason said it was a pulled muscle. 2 days later they again said pulled muscle. 2 weeks later, St Francis saved his life. It was his appendix, it had abscessed and gangrene had set in. A normal outpatient surgery resulted in 3 weeks in hospital, 3 of them in icu. 7 hour surgery and there was a less than 1% chance of survival if the appendix burst before they got it out.

Nason Medical Center Ingrown Toenail Treatment Review from Raleigh, North Carolina

I went to Nason Medical for an ingrown toenail removal and I actually had Dr. Nason himself. He examined my toe and told his nurse to hold my arms. He did not give me a shot or nothing and yanked my nail out after slicing my toe. Tremendous pain. Then asked me if I wanted to look at it. I have never been back. He is horrible!!!!

Nason medical gave me the wrong medication and made my condition worse resulting in emergency surgery. It changed my entire life because it threw my hormones way off.

I lost one of my ovaries because of their negligence and a few years later am finally starting to come around. My abdominal muscles are damaged severely and the chemical imbalance causes crazy mood swings.

Thanks nason. I should have sued you a long time ago.

I had to pay to be seen 3 times within 3 weeks for a simple ear infection. They wont give refills for simple antibiotics over the phone so I had to pay $40 every time. THEN i was prescribed ear drops that were apparently not for the type of ear infection i have, and they caused blood in my ear. COOL. Thanks, Nason!

Deceptive Billing, No Lab Results, Terrible Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Shady business practices all around. I had bronchitis a few months ago, so I went to Nason because it was close and the only place open (~8:00 p.m.). I had heard about their fraudulent reputation with insurance companies, but I believed they may be on the up and up with their customers.

I told the front desk clerk I thought I had bronchitis and wanted to get an antibiotic. She charged me $75 up front for my visit, which I paid immediately. I had virtually no wait time to get into a room because I was the only patient there. The rest of the staff was watching a football game, so a nurse had to be pulled away to take some preliminary notes. She asked if she could stick a Q-tip in my nose, said it might tickle. "Why not?" I thought. "A little tickle every now and then isn't so bad." Not mentioning anything else about it, I was sent to another room to wait on a PA (after the game went to a commercial, of course. This is 'Merica for God's sake. Pigskin first, sick people second.).

The PA spent a total of 3 and a half minutes reading questions from a sheet without ever making eye contact and interrupting my answers to get through the questions as fast as possible. Impersonal and automated service, but no problem; we both wanted to get out of there and knew my symptoms were from bronchitis. She gave me a prescription for a Z pack and left the room. Another nurse then directed me to the billing clerk, where I was told I had to pay $35 for a flu test. When I asked her where the results for the flu test were and questioned whether one had even been performed, she told me, "Well, you probably don't have it." For such a precise medical diagnosis as that, they wanted payment, which I stupidly conceded to because who wants to haggle over $35 when you're running a fever and trying to get into a Snuggie as quickly as possible? This is the attitude they rely on to drive up profits, so BE WARNED: they will send another bill wanting twice as much as they charge in the office for everything they do here.

A few months later I got a bill from Nason saying that I owe an additional $144 for the visit, including another $102 for this "flu test." I called the billing center and explained that I was never told I was being given a flu test or given any results from the test and that I was unhappy with the poor service and deceptive billing practice. But alas, this company didn't care, provided no lab results or medical records, and still wants money for an unnecessary test that no one, especially myself, even knows was actually performed.

Nevertheless, I did not have the flu and I did get into a Snuggie, so this story isn't all bad. Silver linings aside, I would not recommend this company. But do go there and eat popcorn and drink soda until they call your name. Just make sure you run before they sic the scrubs on you and try their hand at anything medical-related. There are much better health professionals in the area to choose from.

Just to clarify, Nason centers don't have nurses. They pull lay people off the street and do a two week on the job training.

So those giving medications, IVs and such normally have NO clinical experience or any formal medical training. SCARY!

I believe you are exaggerating, been in the health care field 30 years and never saw a place that wasn't shut down that didn't have licensed professionals working in their facility. Why would you say such a thing?

How many bills will they keep sending me when I think I'm paid up???

I went to Nason in September, 2013. I paid my estimated balance for that day. Months later, I received a bill for $60. Ok, they filed insurance and this is what insurance would not cover (or, so I thought!). I paid that $60 in February 2014. Fast forward to December 2014 and I get ANOTHER bill?? They claim that this is a portion insurance would not cover. Why would I have gotten this bill 10 months later? Why was this balance not included in that first $60 bill I received? Well over a year later they are still trying to collect from me and I don't buy it! But, of course, they are now claiming that I am over 120 days past due on this balance and I should pay something. Considering I ended up re-injuring myself after following the doctor's recommendations, this whole Nason experience seems like a complete sham. I'll never go again. I think this is shady business here ...

Too many CTs ordered that weren't medically indicated. State of SC pulled their license to do them. Yesterday they were fined a million bucks. Greed gets you nowhere, Nason

Nason's Medical - James Island, SC / Misdiagnosed *TWICE*!!

The first time was 2013. I tripped over our pet, fell off the back deck & landed on my arm on a concrete patio. Nason's took x-rays and informed me that I had 'broken off the tip of my elbow bone'. (As a side note, I came in with my own sling & when it was time to leave, the PA insisted that I take one of theirs because as he put it, 'The insurance company will pay for it anyway so why not?' Insurance would not pay $50 for the flimsy little device & neither was I!) One week after my trip to Nason's, I saw an orthopedic specialist who took another set of x-rays. The 'broken elbow tip' was actually a calcium buildup & was NOT apart of my issue. The correct diagnosis was that I had 3 fractures, one in the radial bone, wrist bone and a bone on the top of my hand. The second time was this past July 4th weekend. I was horribly sick with fever, body aches, difficulty breathing, coughing, vomiting & upset stomach. I decided to give them one more chance. Going thru the processes of wait time, 'triage', getting chest x-rays & giving blood & urine samples was not too bad. (As another side note - the nurse was taking blood & 'blew a vein' as she explained it. Basically my vein started bubbling under the skin so she had to remove the needle quickly. The nurse stated that 'sometimes that happens'. Strange, has NEVER happened to me before! She then proceeds to tell me that the Doctor wants her to put a shunt in my arm 'in case you need fluids'. When I asked WHY would the doctor order this when she doesn't even know if I will need fluids, her reply was that 'the doctor ALWAYS orders a shunt be inserted when she takes blood samples.' I promptly told the nurse I refused to have a shunt inserted until I see whether or not fluids were needed. How many sealed shunt devices have been unnecessarily opened & used when not required? You can bet the insurance companies were billed for them. Or those unlucky enough not to have insurance paid for something that was not needed!) After all samples had been given and x-rays had been taken, it was approx. 20 mins before a nurse came in and stated that everything looked okay and the doctor would be in 'shortly' to discuss. Lo & Behold........55 MINUTES later I had to walk to the front desk & demand to see the doctor. I returned to my room and no sooner had shut the door behind me, when the doctor appeared. She claimed to have 'just' received my test results. Her diagnosis.......she was going to treat me 'as if I had bronchitis'. I asked about taking a flu test and she stated that would not be needed. Really? You would waste a shunt kit but you won't use a cotton swab? I was sent home with an antibiotic and cough syrup. The next day I had to call back and demand that they call me in an inhaler because it still hurt to breathe. Three days later, I was in the ER hooked up to fluids and being treated for the flu. I apologize for this long novel, but the public needs to be warned that Nason's Medical - James Island SC is run by a bunch of doctor-wanna-be's without ANY supervision from qualified professionals. If this was the last medical treatment center on earth, I would die before I step through those doors again!

Nason Medical Center - Bad Service Review from Columbia, South Carolina

I'm ticked! Just got back from Nason Medical Center for a severe reaction to poison ivy. I had my daughter meet me there because the infection was so bad, I was experiencing difficulty walking. Initially, I thought it was odd that my copay was twice the normal amount but due to the severity of the infection, I wasn't in the mood to question or argue over $20. I'll start with the positive. Customer service offered from the front desk and initial screening was great as well as the proactive, professional care given by the physician's assistant (PA). Considering the horrible wether outside, the place was very clean. Now why I'm ticked. I needed to take the bandage off to show my daughter as well as the doctor, the infected area but it was adhered to the infection. I told her to put on gloves, wet a few paper towls to wet and loosen the material from the infection... and to look for something to keep the ozzing contained while we wait on the doctor. Removed bandage from infection, but it was ozzing bad! I told her to grab some paper towels but to look for some tape to hold it in place... need to prevent obvious spread of infection and contamination. She found tape and also guaze... suggested i use it instead of papertowl. Before we covered the area i told her to get me another wet paper towl to clean off the yuck and use the disinfectant wipes on the counter to sanitize everything we touched. She laid the bandage items on top of my purse and wiped the infected water off my purse, the floor, chairs and counters. The PA walked in, amused and asked her if she needed a job. Long story short... Had to get a shot, bad reaction and passed out. Daughter asked for help and individual that administered the injection returned with water, a different kind of bandage, looked down at my purse, turned around and walked out... left me lying on the table, incoherent, in the care of my teen. Confused, my daughter tried talking to me but I was in and out of it. As I became a little more coherant, my daughter said the technician acted funny when she seen the bandage items "3pc gauze and tape" sitting on top of my purse. Shortly after the wierdness, a different individual returned and "eluded" to the fact that we stole medical items; "3-2x2 pc's of gauze and tape." I was not fully coherant, so she felt the need to lecture my teen on the situation. Not only was i left on the table for what seemed 10-15 min, in the care of my teen but I had ozzing poison running down my legs. .. hope shot works miricals! This was one of the worst experience I have ever dealing with medical treatment. .. enough to constitute typing this review from my cellphone.

Nason Medical Center - Ear Medicine Review

I went for earache and said had fulid behind ear, gave me medication that was not associated to the problem called back and was given something that would have a reaction to me then told to buy Iburopen over the counter. This is awful that people pay money for medical service and they do not help. This is the last time I will ever go there. Our these people really in the medical profession or what. I gues for someone to care about your problems there is not in there job description

CT scan without checking blood or urine first!

I am disgusted with nason medical! I bring my daughter in for what I think is a UTI. I get them so I know this is prob what it is. Expecting to get a antibiotic and be on our way. Nope! It took forever to be seen but once we were the doc is so fast to tell us we need a CT SCAN! Um....WHAT?! And he wants to start her on fluids. I was expecting more like let's check her urine or blood first. We were scared to death in tears thinking it's cancer or something horrible. I begin to question him. Asking him "how is that possible when you didn't check her urine or blood"? So he went and checked her urine took 5 min...really? So we are crying at this point thinking the worst. I'm a single mom no Health care who works her *** off and am missing work to be here at nason and I should trust these docs. So then I say "I've had UTI'S/ kidney infections and never had a CT scan". His response "it's because she's 16" HUH? So then he speculates that I obviously don't have funds for that and I could just give her antibiotic and see what happens or I could take her to MUSC for ultrasound. Hmm 5 hours later after leaving MUSC She's fine just a UTI! And they gave us the correct prescription. Which nason did not. ***!
